The automaker that recently underwent a legal name change from Shelby SuperCars to SSC has officially begun construction of its all-new design and production facility in West Richland, Washington.
The new facility keeps SSC in the same region of Washington, but will provide 36,000 square feet of cutting-edge design, research and development and production space. All told, SSC says the new location will be capable of pumping out 48 examples of the Tuatara per year.
Obviously 48 vehicles isn’t a whole heck of a lot, even for a boutique firm such as SSC, but the automaker has planned ahead and says it is capable of expanding the production space for either specific models and/or specific distribution requirements.
In addition to producing the Tuatara, the facility will also feature a glass showroom display, an apparel store and a special gallery where customers purchasing an SSC car can be measured for their custom fitted seats and pedal positioning.
Being a truly multi-purpose location, SSC says the outdoor section of the headquarters will also be capable of playing host to car show, driving demonstrations, outdoor concerts, wine tasting, civic events and more.
Construction is expected to be completed by Fall 2012.
