Stock Ford Fiesta hits the dirt – rally style [Video]

10/26/2009, 7:56 AM

By Mark Kleis

The Fiesta Movement has provided its share of entertaining (and not-so-entertaining) experiences for its 100 “agents” and its many followers so far – but we found this particular gem of a video to be worth passing along.

Being a Ford Fiesta Agent myself I have had the luxury of driving the Euro spec version of the Ford Fiesta that will be coming to the US in the first half of next year for nearly ten thousand miles. Some of those miles have been on an autocross track where the Fiesta performed surprisingly well.

In fact, several agents have hit various autocross tracks, including one that entered an SCCA sanctioned event and placed fourth overall – besting the likes of a Subaru WRX and a BMW M3.

Despite the numerous experiences reported by various agents of the Fiesta Movement involving the Fiesta on pavement-based racetracks, only one agent team has had the pleasure of taking the Fiesta to the dirt. Agents Jamy Donaldson and Bill Lockwood recently had the pleasure of attending Team O’Neil Rally School for a week to put the Fiesta to the test – off-road.

Mark, have they told you what they are going to do with your Fiesta after you turn it in yet? When some manufacturers do similiar things like this (Mazda and BMW are a couple) they’ve told me they strip every part of the car and destroy them since they can’t risk any part of these to reach the aftermarket. Now these are manufacturer event vehicles with no VINs, but I have a feeling that these Fiesta’s will have to meet the same fate.

Shhhh Jake! Poor Mark will be in tears! nothing will stand between him and his Fiesta! perhaps they will run away to Mexico together!

I think they crush the cars that are pre-production samples etc. But the one Mark has (correct me if i’m wrong) a proper road worthy car.. Still not sure what they would do with it.

they’ll sell them to dealers and such to use as promo and show. I had seats from a 7th Gen Celica that was later used by a race team.

I bet that Little Fiesta would “OWN” a Bitch and his Corvette ZR1 on a Off Road track like that any day of the Week

I wonder if you can reserve a whole day, for a party, at that place. Anyone know?

Speaking of the orange Ranger… my wife had the truck last week and left the Sirius on Howard Stern. Do people really still listen to that guy let alone pay for the privilege?

Stern is more of a has-been anymore, Johnny. Before he went to Siri he had something like 15M listeners – with Siri he has less than 1M. I personally would never pay for satrad. Have had it on various rentals and got tired of it, and its flaws, long before I had to turn in the car.

I found another good station the other week called Boneyard which is kind of like 3 chord paradise for aging muscle and pony car drivers. So if I start now do you think I’ll have a good enough mullet by next summer?

Your ability to grow a convincing mullet will depend upon your estrogen intake over the next 8 months.

I hear it’s directly correlated scientically.

I got to see one of these race at my last event and I’ll be honest it had alot of potential. I beleive the next day the guys who had it took it for and off road rally I never heard how that went though

Honestly Johnny, I have Sirius and I either have it on 80’s on 8 or Classic Rewind (Ch 15) and never venture too much off those two channels – maybe HairNation or First Wave but that’s about it. It cuts off under bridges too much though.

Hey Everybody!

“fordman” is a punk and a spaz. He must be some sad forum-flamer looking for a fight. Either that or can’t stand the idea that his favorite car brands are hitting the skids while DETROIT is getting back in the game.

I case you did not know this going in, pay people like him no mind.

Saying something nice about the FIESTA: “It’s a great little car that for once seems to take American’s other driving interests to heart.

MAS KUDOS, FORD!
