A British firm founded by two former McLaren engineers promises to deliver a street-legal F1-style car by the end of 2006. Called the Freestream T1, the car delivers 480 horsepower and weights just 465 kilograms (1,023 pounds). Expected to cost £150,000, the car will use a 2.4-litre V8 F1 engine. According to the company, it will produce incredible 3g cornering as well as F1-level braking and acceleration. Top speed is estimated at 190 mph. In all, the team plans to build just 25 cars per year. “We wanted to demonstrate our ability to design from scratch a no-compromise but usable and reliable sports car with the whole vehicle meticulously engineered from the ground up, so as to offer customers a truly unique experience with a full aerodynamic performance package which at present can only be found in a high formula racecar, said Ben Scott-Geddes.
