GM today announced pricing and details on the 2006 Pontiac G6 retractable hardtop convertible. This spring, the G6 family will be complete with the addition of the G6 retractable hardtop convertible, the first vehicle to offer this feature in the mid-size car segment, according to the company. In addition to having the largest retractable hardtop on any four-passenger coupe, GM says the G6 convertible will carry a price of $28,490, making it the first retractable hardtop available in North America for under $29,000. The Leftlane Perspective: GM is hoping to steal some thunder from Volvo and Volkswagen by being the first to bring a large hardtop-convertible to showroom floors in the U.S. Many Pontiac fans had expected the car sooner, but in the end it’s still pretty timely. It’ll probably be bumped off the map pretty quickly when the Sebring hardtop comes out.

From the rear it rather resembles the homely Lexus hardtop convertible. And if that’s the price they need to charge, a conventional softop would have been better. I’ll take a Mustang V6 for $5000 less.

The Sebring is one of the most popular convertibles in America, for some reason. Generally, the reliability has improved a great deal, it has a lot of car for the money, and it’s hard to argue with a top down and a V6 for pennies on the dollar. The next Sebring is coming out in the next year or so, and will have a hardtop and a complete redesign, finally abandoning that cloud car platform. Should be interesting, and if it’s already a top seller, drastic improvements will only help them.

The G6 convertible looks too similar to the Chery Convertible that is planned to arrive in the U.S in 2007 under Visionary Vehicles Corp.
Yes I agree with Nick, If the Sebring comes out with a Retractable hardtop in the near future & I`m still alive I would purchase one. Although I`m in my mid eighties my chances are slim. I really believe the Sebring is the best looking convertible on the road
today.
