The motorsport of rallying – found in many forms ranging from World Rally Championship (WRC), to Rally America, to Global Rallycross Series and X-Games – is gaining momentum in the U.S. as small cars continue to capture more market share. At Subaru, rallying is part of the vehicle’s bloodline with years of successes to lay claim to.

In 2011, Subaru, no longer a player in WRC, was determined to find success where it did still compete and documented its seventh season win in eight years in Rally America in a short film called “Gunning for Gold.”

Since Ken Block left Subaru’s team in search of a sponsor who could put him in WRC contention, Dave Higgins was brought in to join Dave Mira to pilot a pair of rally-proven Impreza WRX STI cars. Higgins kept the gold in the Subaru family, capturing three first place and two second place race finishes, enough to earn the overall 2011 Rally America Championship.

While Subaru was able to achieve everything it hoped for and discussed in the video with its 2011 Rally America Championship, team Subaru unfortunately didn’t have the week they had hoped for at the X-Games as Ford’s Fiesta rallycar managed to three-peat its 1-2-3 finishes in the big event.
