Leftlane brought you live images and details of the redesigned all-new 2012 Subaru Impreza from the New York Auto Show in late April, but until now Subaru was keeping pricing all to itself.

We now know that the Impreza 2.0i sedan five-speed manual will start at the same $17,495 plus destination that the outgoing model commanded, a unique move that seems somewhat fitting for the vehicles given the similarly unique approach to the powertrain update.

While most vehicles seem to be on a never-ending push to higher horsepower with each new generation, Subaru decided to take a step back from 170 horsepower to just 148 for the 2012 Impreza, a sacrifice intended to help boost fuel economy significantly.

In fact, that unique approach took the Impreza from a best of 27 miles per gallon to a very competitive 36 mpg on the highway, with 26 in the city – nearly matching the previous model’s highway best.

Stepping up to the 2.0i Premium sedan will boost the price to $18,795, while the Premium hatchback begins at $19,295. Up the ante even more and opt for the 2.0i Limited and watch the price rise to $21,595 for the sedan, $22,095 for the hatchback.

The 2012 Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium comes in hatchback form only, priced from $20,295.

Look for the latest Impreza models to begin arriving in dealerships nationwide this November.
