In April Leftlane reported on the early stages of an investigation opened by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into the 2002-2003 Subaru Impreza over extreme corrosion problems in a suspension component following two incidents.

That investigation has now resulted in a recall that covers the 2002 through 2007 Impreza, as well as the 2003 through 2008 Forester and the 2005-2006 Saab 9-2X, which is built on the Impreza platform. The recall includes 295,000 vehicles, and specifically names the front control arm as a potential risk for failure as a result of extreme corrosion.

Separately, NHTSA and Subaru have also announced another recall that includes the 2010 and 2011 model years for the Legacy and Outback models. This recall stems from a faulty electric motor for the windshield wiper arms, which can overheat and in an extreme case, catch fire. This recall includes some 195,000 vehicles.

For concerned Impreza owners, know that the recall is being limited to colder climate Northeast regions with snow, totaling 20 states plus the District of Columbia.
