Subaru has released another official teaser image of its STI version of the Impreza WRX. Although Subaru didn’t release any details with the image, the picture gives us an overall impression of the car’s styling. The car features a predominant hood scoop and larger fenders, a new front bumper that incorporates fog lights and air vents and quad-exhaust.
Sources say the STI will use a 300 horsepower turbocharged boxer engine — said to displace 2.5L in the U.S. and 2.0L in Japan and Europe — but it remains unclear if Subaru will offer a dual-clutch gearbox.
Although Subaru showed a WRC version of the Impreza at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the road-going STI won’t be unveiled until this month’s Tokyo Motor Show. Check back for official details.

Only the US gets the 2.5L, not really sure why since the 2.0L in the other markets make the same HP/torque. Subaru has to use the 2.0L engine somewhere in the world in actual production to meet WRC rules which limit engines to 2.0L max displacement.

Subaru has always done things a little different you either like it or hate it.
Been waiting to see what the New STi was going to look like. At first wasn’t thrilled about the hatch but I’m starting to like it.
Come on Subaru please at least offer a dual-clutch gearbox. This should be standard equipment on the STi….

Subaru buyers are fed up with poor quality, dependibilty and reliability and have already jumped ship for better offerings like the Chevy Equinox and Pontiac Torent. Sorry Subaru, you had your opportunity for greatness when you were under the GM umbrella. Now your just another **** building joke of a car brand.
What a laugh people are going to have when this POS hits the dealerships! Hate to be a Subaru salesman!

Definately want to see this when it’s released. Like the WRX hatch, it’s growing on me. Would actually want want one more than the previous versions, and being a Subaru, they will be very reliable.

1487_GM_SALES, I do not know what you are smoking but you should share with the rest of the forum. Subaru is not plagued with quality, reliability problems. While the new Impreza Sedan looks like ****,I’m sure it’s built well and is a great example of high performance. The new STI wagon looks a lot better than the sedan. Discredit the new Impreza’s styling, not the brand’s reputation. In my honest opinion, Subaru builds just as (if not more) reliable cars than Honda or Toyota–I should know–I’ve owned two Subarus and never had a single problem. What do you drive? a rental Malibu?

Yes the STi is available as a 2.0L for rally spec. Americans tend to think more liters is a better car which is my guess as why they have 2.5 for the US.
The WRX has always been an ugly car. Anyone who likes it does so for pride or appreciation for it’s technology. Nobody buys a WRX for style or anyone who does doesn’t have style.
The G6 GXP is a whole step below the STi in terms of performance, and whole different kind of car. Really the copmparable car to the STi has always been the EVO and maybe the S4 quattro. The SPEED3 is pretty similar too, but that’s FWD…
I hope they make a sedan version of the new STI. I hate hatches

True, it’s about the performance, not looks, with the STI which has really come up short compared to the EVO’s handling, steering and braking.
I like the wagon/hatch look of this new one, with it’s bulging fenders and overdone body kit. The STI has a lot of true perforance parts and Suby’s have always been mod friendly, so it should be a success.
They must have carried over the entire powertrain from last year, still 300hp 300tq???

The reason for the bigger engine in the US is for our lowoctane gas and the fact that we dont Rally. Europes FIA rules state that cars have to be under 2.0 litres and produced into certain numbers.

GM sales as a GM fan myself, please shut your mouth. You make us all look bad. All the vehicles you mentioned are not even close to being in the same class as the STi. Equinox is an CUV and GXP is a mid-size car. Both are significantly larger than STi and built for a different purpose. GM doesn’t make a rally car plain and simple. This competes with the Mistu EVO and hat’s it.
The Audi is a sort of competitor only in that its AWD, but the RS4/S4 are not rally vehicles. GM may have a spiritual competitor of sorts when the AWD CTS-V comes out, but again that’s a mid-size luxury vehicle, not a rally car
