After a near-month shutdown, Subaru has announced it will resume limited production of its full-size vehicles. Like many other Japanese-based automakers, Subaru was forced to halt production following last month’s devastating earthquake.

Subaru’s Gumma plant resumed production of small cars on March 31, but the company’s Forester, Legacy and Impreza models have remained off-line since the March 11th earthquake. However, that will soon change as Subaru has announced it will resume production of its full-size models on Wednesday.

Initial production of the three models will be about half of Subaru’s normal output as the automaker gauges its parts inventory.

“We don’t intend to stop production from here, but if we have to we will,” Subaru spokesman Kenta Matsumoto said. “The situation with every part isn’t entirely clear.”

Subaru’s Lafayette, Indiana plant will run at half capacity for a few days this week due to some parts shortages, but the automaker doesn’t expect any more production interruptions after April 8.
