Subaru debuted a new Toyota-based entry-level model at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the Toyota Verso, the Subaru version of the wagon will be sold under the Trezia nameplate.
The Trezia is intended to expand Subaru’s small car presence in Europe. The Trezia will be available with two efficient engines – a 1.3L gas engine and a 1.4L turbocharged diesel. The diesel mill will spew just 113 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
Toyota bits are obvious inside, where the car features switchgear grabbed from the bigger brand’s parts bin. In fact, aside from its Subaru badging, the Trezia looks and feels like a Toyota product. That’s hardly a surprise given that Toyota developed the vehicle and Toyota owns a portion of Subaru.
“The model provides the benefits of the Subaru wagon-style in an overall body size of less than 4 meters in length,” Subaru said in a statement released to members of the media.
Already on sale in Japan under the Toyota banner, the Subaru Trezia will hit the European market this spring. It is not headed to North America.
