I actually don't mind the exterior styling. Interior is generally nice looking though the center console is a bit fussy looking.

They made big cosmetic changes from 3rd Gen to 4th Gen (current) but they didn't change the passenger dimensions. Elbow room was tight and back leg room was only suitable for kids. Hope they addressed those. If not, then this change was just another cosmetic one and a waste of time to review.

Let me tell you a little story. Back in 1996, my brother bought a used Subaru Loyale wagon, with 120k already on the odometer. I went up to visit him in Eugene, Oregon, and he and I decided to go camping -- in November -- in the Cascadia National Forest in Washington. The Loyale was about 95hp, had about 4 inches of ground clearance. It could not have been an uglier car; I am pretty sure communist-era auto design was more progressive.

That little Loyale, 95hp and all, tore the SHIT out of the Cascadia park. There was NO WHERE we could not go, unless it involved boulders. We forded streams, tore down fire roads, crawled very scary single-lane access roads, drafted behind logging trucks and in general crossed that park from corner to corner. On the fourth day it was POURING rain and hail, so we finally gave up on camping and decided to go back to town. On the way, we passed five or six big lifted 4x4s that had spun off the road or just called it quits -- not the little Subaru, it took that wet dirt and gravel like a champion.

Now, all you pissy babies with your offended aesthetic sensibilities can whine all you want about rooflines and headlights and all those utterly meaningless things which are matters of pure taste... I'll just think about how my brother passed that Loyale on to another owner with 142k on the clock, and it is still running to this day as a farm truck (rear hatch permanently removed) at some farm outside of Williamette.

And the options for decent wagons in the US keep getting smaller.

No, that other Subaru pretend-wagon that looks like a mini-SUV does not count.

Actually... didn't they JUST redesign the Legacy only a couple of years ago? Couldn't they have kept such a nice looking design in production compared to this? Exterior "refreshes" be damned. Porsche doesn't change much on their exteriors year to year. If Subaru followed suit they'd have two things in common with Stuttgart.

bd394.. you are 100% correct.. Subaru really blew it with the Legacy/Outback this time around.. it might be the first time in history that a dealer network will sell completely out of their current (and used!) models before anyone considers buying the new one.. but Acura might not be far behind.

I'd stick with an 05 or 06 STi instead. It seems that Subaru is now lacking in style for more curves.

Jake, you hear about European badge whores all the time. Well we have Asian badge whores up here in equal or greater numbers. You can't fault Acura; it's just smart marketing.

JohnnyC, I want your CSX!!!! All joking aside, the CSX being the biggest joke, Subaru always sold a sh!t ton of the Legacy wagons in the US, they didn't want to undercut the Outback's sales because the Outback always cost more. This wagon is at least better looking than the sedan and the Outback, I'm kinda bummed about it.

haha no thanks, thats quite alright. you can keep the B-class too. Im just sick of the US getting screwed out of variety and diesels. If i had to pick between a legacy wagon and and outback with a gun to my head, id take the sportier legacy.
