Subaru settles WRX, STI engine failure lawsuit

Owners allege the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine is prone to early failure of the rod bearings and main bearings.

Subaru has reportedly agreed to settle a lawsuit over WRX and STI engine failures.

The lawsuits argued that the 2.5-liter turbocharged EJ engine used in the 2012-2017 WRX and STI is prone to premature failure of the connecting rod bearings and main bearings.

The company was allegedly aware of the problems but did not issue a recall or inform customers, according to Car Complaints.

Subaru has agreed to pay for repairs and extend the warranty period to eight years or 100,000 miles, whatever comes sooner. The company will also compensate owners for lost value at the time of sale, up to $4,000 per vehicle.

Owners may receive a notification after the settlement gets a final approval from the judge.
