Occupying prime real estate on Suzuki’s Geneva show stand is the automaker’s G70 concept. If the uniquely styled G70 seems familiar, that’s because it is – the show car debuted under the Regina nameplate at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.
But no matter the name, the G70 is intended to foreshadow the future direction of Suzuki’s small car lineup. The G70 places a heavy emphasis on lightweight materials in the name of efficiency, with the concept tipping the scales at just over 1,600 pounds.
Suzuki also designed the G70 to be as aerodynamic as possible, with the car’s drag coefficient at least 10 percent lower than the company’s current A-segment model. The car makes use of Suzuki’s latest CVT and also features engine stop-start and regenerative braking functions. As a result of those green initiatives, Suzuki says the G70 can return about 75mpg while emitting 70g/km of CO2 emissions.
No word on whether the G70 will ever reach showrooms, but when an automaker shows more than one version of a concept vehicle it’s a fairly good indicator that a production version is in the cards.
