Reports surfaced on Monday that Suzuki had shelved its Kizashi sedan plans, but the Japanese automaker responded today by saying those reports were erroneous. In a statement released on Tuesday, Suzuki claims its Kizashi program has not been delayed or canceled and that the mid-size sedan is still on track for the U.S. market.
Japan’s Nikkei business daily first reported the Kizashi program was in limbo earlier this week, but a Suzuki spokesman told Automotive News on Tuesday that the report was incorrect. “The production version will debut at this year’s New York Auto Show in April,” Suzuki spokesman Jeff Holland said.
Holland failed to mention when the Kizashi would hit U.S. showrooms, but an announcement is expected at the New York show.
The news that the Kizashi sedan is still on is a relief to Suzuki’s dealers as the automaker’s current lineup is a little thin. The Kizashi – although the sedan’s name could change for production – will likely be Suzuki’s largest volume model, competing in the fiercely competitive mid-size sedan segment.

Well, thanks for giving everyone another fun GM hatefest with the original story. If you hadn’t made the previous blog post about this car being canceled, posters here would’ve had to go an extra day without having anything current to hate on GM for

Still makes me wonder a point to this car? It’s not going to help GM but just provide itself with more competition in house than it needs. The next Saturn Aura should be more important than this model. I think this will be very competitive, but against the wrong people and it should get rid of my GTI ’s grill.

JakeK66,
GM DOESN’T OWN SUZUKI ANYMORE, and when it did, it only owned 3%.
Which is exactly why Suzuki stopped selling the Forenza and Reno once their SX4 came online.
Keep up, will ya?
This will be an important model for Suzuki. It’ll be their own, too, so it’ll get more support (and ad time) than the unloved and now-forgotten Daewoo-based Verona. Suzuki’s wise to keep it in production and headed to the US.

Well inline,
GM still supplies them with let’s see: Powertrains, Transmissions, and who knows how many other parts. If it is in GM’s interest, they can tell Suzuki to pound sand and they can’t build this, so I stand by what I say and GM has the say on if this is built or not.

They have to change the name. I refuse to drive anything that sounds like it should come with wasabi on the side.

If suzuki sold this and the Swift Sport in the U.S. gosh.. I think I might be tempted to get a second car (the Swift Sport) that wasn’t a Mazda!

Why doesn’t Yamaha make cars? Honda, Suzuki, even Indian made a car or two back in the early 1900’s. No Yamahas? Not that it’s exactly a good time to get into the car market..

Could have had a winner … now it’s so watered down it’ll be lost amongst the crowd … then again, it looks SO much better than any Honda and Toyota … gotta give credit where it’s due, not that comparing against those two ugly-producers is really anything to be proud of.

For an automaker that I thought was going out Uncle Sams door soon…
I’m happy to hear this. Suzuki sounds serious. Best lineup would be:
-Alto
-Swift (coming soon to NA)
-SX-4
-Kizashi
-Grand Vitara
Focus on small vehicles, fill a growing niche. ONE small diesel engine would be good enough to satisfy us. They don’t need the Equator (rebadged Nissan truck).

JakeK66,
The ONLY engine Suzuki offers that has ANYTHING to do with GM is the 3.6L V6 in the XL-7. And that engine is built ON LICENSE from GM, and Suzuki has significantly re-engineered it for their own applications. Suzuki produces it, not GM, IIRC.
GM has ZERO say in what Suzuki does. Your attempt to find a way to moan aboutt GM in every story is quite the stretch with this one, I’m afraid.
So, again, tell me why Suzuki should care one whit about whether GM likes the additional competition? Especially when they’ve got that sprawling Suzuki dealer network to compete against!
