The ONLY engine Suzuki offers that has ANYTHING to do with GM is the 3.6L V6 in the XL-7. And that engine is built ON LICENSE from GM, and Suzuki has significantly re-engineered it for their own applications. Suzuki produces it, not GM, IIRC.

GM has ZERO say in what Suzuki does. Your attempt to find a way to moan aboutt GM in every story is quite the stretch with this one, I’m afraid.

So, again, tell me why Suzuki should care one whit about whether GM likes the additional competition? Especially when they’ve got that sprawling Suzuki dealer network to compete against!

I’m happy to hear this. Suzuki sounds serious. Best lineup would be:

-Alto
-Swift (coming soon to NA)
-SX-4
-Kizashi
-Grand Vitara

Focus on small vehicles, fill a growing niche. ONE small diesel engine would be good enough to satisfy us. They don’t need the Equator (rebadged Nissan truck).

GM still supplies them with let’s see: Powertrains, Transmissions, and who knows how many other parts. If it is in GM’s interest, they can tell Suzuki to pound sand and they can’t build this, so I stand by what I say and GM has the say on if this is built or not.

GM DOESN’T OWN SUZUKI ANYMORE, and when it did, it only owned 3%.

Which is exactly why Suzuki stopped selling the Forenza and Reno once their SX4 came online.

This will be an important model for Suzuki. It’ll be their own, too, so it’ll get more support (and ad time) than the unloved and now-forgotten Daewoo-based Verona. Suzuki’s wise to keep it in production and headed to the US.
