Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. — a division of Suzuki — took the wraps off of its all-new Swift DZire on Wednesday in New Delhi. The new Swift DZire joind the Swift and SX4 in Suzuki's Indian lineup and is intended to "redefine the market and stir excitement in the entry level sedan segment."

Despite Suzuki's attempt to stir excitement in the segment, the exterior design of the Swift Dzire could cause potential buyers to feel every emotion except desire. Overall the car's shape is best described as awkward and it looks as though BMW designer Chris Bangle's signature "Bangle-butt" is still alive and well.

On the inside, the Swift DZire is much more conventional and offers a long list of features not normally found in this segment, including power windows, steering wheel mounted audio controls and automatic climate control.

The Swift DZire can be fitted with either a 1.3L gas engine — producing 87 horsepower — or a 1.3L diesel with 140 lb-ft of torque.

  1. That thing looks wierd. The A-pillars not matching the body color give it an akward appearance. Sorta like a Nissan Sentra plus a Hyundai Accent.

  2. Looks like my kind of car. Not really. Never in a million lifetimes. I'd rather drive a Seat than a Suzuki.

  3. It's cute as a hatchback but this is a monstrosity for the Indian and Asian markets only (I hope)
Has many echos of the Toyota Echo.
The Blacked out A pillars work well on the hatchback and make it look MINIesque

  4. DZire = Desire now I get it.

Kudos to Suzuki for the totally ironic nameplate

  6. Kudos to Suzuki for taking one of the world's best-looking hatchbacks and turning it into one of the ugliest sedans! Actually, they've done it twice.. anyone seen the SX4 sedan?

  7. Yeah, I don't know where this LLN writer gets the idea that this car has "Bangle-butt". The tail looks NOTHING like any BMW currently in production. It's all Nissan/Hyundai.

Yeah, the car's unattractive. The hatchback is much nicer.

  10. Agreed zoomzoomr, and I liked the hatch enough to seriously consider buying one at one point. Then again, try to name one very small sedan that doesn't look awkward in some dimension. It's just the nature of the beast: mostly cabin, short hood and deck and minimal overhang which creates the tall as it is long effect. Some may be more nicely detailed at others but seen in a silhouette you'd probably have trouble telling one from the other.

  11. I'm just so" stirred up with excitement…" Actually I thought the Suzuki Swift hatch that is sold in the U.K and other parts of Europe was pretty decent for this class. Which is unusual for me to say because I usually don't like hatches, however I prefer the hatch version more then I like the sedan.

  12. What an unfortunate looking car. And check out the oodles of rear leg room! Why on earth would they show anyone that picture and then expect to sell any of these.

For that matter why show any of the pictures at all . . .

  13. I take offense to tying Bungle to that fugly deck lid. Hyundai implemented it first. Bungle did ruin Z3 with his Z4 which does not look any better then this car, as well as 5,6 and 7This car is look cheap 'cause it is cheap. Even with USD in the shit house, majority of Indians are still poorer then us. But they want cars, so before Jag and Rover will drop to Indian level of consumption they'll have to tool around with Dzire.

  14. it looks like a mix of the versa sedan, yaris, if the fit had a sedan counterpart, and a couple of scions.

  15. This car is designed for foreign markets … hence, it is ugly. But I think the SX4 sedan looks better than the hatch. Better than a Civic. Better than a Sentra. Better than a Yaris.

  16. In its defense it's a very well built solid vehicle with an insane amount of trunk space. I think they designed it for people who want a Swift with function in mind. Interior is the same as the Swift, only the trunk is added.

  18. Is this for real!? They should named it Swift bizzare

  19. Yea, my bad… I liked the SX-4 Sport (sedan) but I haven't actually test driven this Swift based sedan. The quality of the Swift especially interior-wise is noticeably below the SX-4 so its price will definitely be cheaper, not to mention weird looking.

  24. Holy shit, that's one fucking ugly car. It couldn't look worse if someone smeared it with shit and crushed it with an 18-wheeler.

  28. Holy GM parts! That's a GM steering wheel if I've ever seen one, the door handles, dashboard, and buttons on the door are the same ones you'll see on a base model Chevy Cobalt and Aveo.

  29. I am with zoomzoomr! The hatchback is so much nicer and this "Dzire" is anything but! Yuck! The US dealers voted not to get the Swift hatchback. Let's hope they are smart enough to avoid this Sedan and bring the hatchback over!
