While Suzuki isn’t known for performance cars, the automaker’s involvement in the World Rally Championship and recently unveiled Kizashi Concept could be proof that things are about to change. And to showcase the company’s involvement in the World Rally Championship, executives are considering launching a WRC version of the SX4 sedan, a new report finds.
According to Cars Guide, Suzuki might create a “WRC SX4″ to compete with the Subaru Impreza WRX. While Suzuki’s WRC car is powered by a 320 horsepower engine, the road-going version would likely see output in the 215 HP range. Other additions to the base SX4 would include larger brakes, sports suspension and a body kit.
Although Suzuki has yet to confirm the rumors, the automaker recently introduced a sport model to the Swift range, indicating further expansion is a definite possibility.
It appears the next-generation WRX will face some completion it hasn’t had to deal with in the past. In addition to Suzuki considering a rival model, it is believed that Mitsubishi will introduce a turbo-version of its Lancer to slot beneath the Evolution.
