While Suzuki isn’t known for performance cars, the automaker’s involvement in the World Rally Championship and recently unveiled Kizashi Concept could be proof that things are about to change. And to showcase the company’s involvement in the World Rally Championship, executives are considering launching a WRC version of the SX4 sedan, a new report finds.
According to Cars Guide, Suzuki might create a “WRC SX4″ to compete with the Subaru Impreza WRX. While Suzuki’s WRC car is powered by a 320 horsepower engine, the road-going version would likely see output in the 215 HP range. Other additions to the base SX4 would include larger brakes, sports suspension and a body kit.
Although Suzuki has yet to confirm the rumors, the automaker recently introduced a sport model to the Swift range, indicating further expansion is a definite possibility.
It appears the next-generation WRX will face some completion it hasn’t had to deal with in the past. In addition to Suzuki considering a rival model, it is believed that Mitsubishi will introduce a turbo-version of its Lancer to slot beneath the Evolution.

and both Suzuki and Subaru will have cheap plastic interiors as always…Subarus are easy to install stereo’s because all the panels come off so easily….too easily.

I don’t know about you sik, but when I sit in my WRX, the things I touch (seat, wheel, pedals, shift knob) feel perfect. It’s my car, not my passengers, and I don’t care what they have to look at.

I assume that they won’t introduce an STI competitor. I don’t know that a $35k Suzuki would have many buyers. But low to mid-20s seems very realistic. I wish they’d incorporate more GM interior design, however. Daewoo-sourced US Suzukis seems too lacking.

That souped up Smart was just stupid crazy. But I could see Suzuki building a hi-pro car. They certainly know how to build the engines.

I realize a lot of people won’t necessarily care about this observation, but this car–and the new Mitsubishi models–could have a huge impact on this market in Canada. Maybe a lot of people don’t know this, but the Evo has never been available in Canada, so the only cars in this class that one can buy are Subarus, either the WRX or the STI. They go for about 35 and 50 thousand, respectively. Now, if Mitsubishi is smart, they’ll use the strength of the new dollar to bring the new Evo and the “Ralliart” in below the price point of the respective Subarus. Even if they priced them at a still-ridiculous 40 and 30 thousand they’d have a major advantage. Now, if Suzuki could bring in a legitimate contender at, say, between 20 and 25 they would sell them like hotcakes… or some other easily sold thing… like crystal meth…
Man… this is awesome.

Suzuki has been known for performance cars, just not in America. You have to keep in mind our market compared to Europe and Asias is growing smaller and smaller. Rising currency rates against the dollar is making 30k seem high compared to other countries which is more like 18-22k.

Hey, guys, not trying to stir up troubles, But…. someone mentioned SX4 “needing work?”
Why?
My inlaws got a SX4 CUV on Saturday, October 14, 2006, an 07 model, blue, automatic.
MPG is 27-29MPG, depending on how much lead-foot is applied, so it is thisclose to 30 MPG, with FWD/AWD/ and Lo-Gear AWD system….this adds weight to the car, but much better handling in snow storms, especially in 5-6 inch deep snow, and plowing through drifts of 12-14 inches deep(or more)….like the inlaws did in February of this year, when we got 18 inches of snow in 24 hours, here in the Midwest….they got around alright, and we had 2-3 inches snow packed on country roads, and drifts of over a foot, that would cover most of the road(you drive in the “clear spot” on side of the vehicle, and plow through the rest the other side, lo gear, up to 30-35MPH… no probs…just lot of snow stuck to the bumper, afterwards).
Sorry for the mile long run-on sentence… it is 4am, and in a hurry to get out of the house, for work, etc.
The vehicle has nearly 34,000 miles on it in 11+months of ownership. No squeaks nor rattles.
Sharp handling vehicle. Lots of room for guys even 6′4″ tall, like my brother in law(he only notched the seatback- back- 1 notch, and was fine, when he test drove it the Sunday, Oct 29th, 2006).
Funny thing I noticed: No paint chipping, or dents on this thing, despite the drive home through a snow storm, etc..
They have owned 2 Trackers( Rebadged Suzuki’s, for Chevy, from 1989-2004, iirc).
Their 90 lasted until 219K miles, and was running upon trade-in.
They still have their 1997 green Tracker, automatic, and just rolled it over 100,000.
This one is mother in laws vehicle.
Replaced the muffler.
I don’t like the Trackers, personally, but reliable? More so than our 90 Sentra ,or 97 200sx,for examples.
More reliable than even our 05 Scion tC, a Toyota product.
(ours had stuck throttle body, would nto run… at 75K this past April…. luckily, we had extended warranty we paid for, 6/100K….the bill was 1,100 dollars, and we paid nothing for towing or the repair…well, we did, 800 dollars, for the extended warranty, but it did save us 300, plus it was added to the monthly payments, as not to be 1,100 or so Now, know what I mean? It’s early, gimme a break, lol).
Suzuki’s are reliable,. I just wish the SX4 had the same center console/armrest deal as the GM-DAT cars…like the Reno( looks good, but would not buy one, it’s a Daewoo, basically)which they Are Getting Rid Of( the SX4 is Suzuki engineering, and the Kazashi…. Suzuki, NO GM-DAT)vs Nothing(well, the SX4 cuv, you can order a cheap fold down arm rest for driver only… seems many makers are doing this on thier “base”/cheap models these days, though, from Hyundai to Scion).
Other than this, should be very interesting how Suzuki is progressing.
If I can hold out, I want to see the Midsized sedan they will bring out (rumors have it as coming out as a MY 09, others say CY 09, as a 2010 model… local dealership says they bet Oct 08, as an 09 model).
Sorry for the long rant, Work Calls, Gotta go… no time to pare this long diatribe down.
Take It Easy.
Suzuki is good….now, we must wait, just a short while longer, for cars people really desire.

forgot to add, SX4 sedan, out Oct 1…. won’t have fold down rear seats like other cars in the class, because they supposedly will strengthen the chassis for more sproty handling over the SX4 CUV, and no center console, either.
Rumors(dealership’s been right the past 13 months on rumors) told me that there is a 5 door hatch, FWD car vesion(larger than the CUV),coming next year… he heard either in March, or October…
They are replacing the Reno and Forenza with SX4 sedan and the SX4 hatch(thus, you want an expandable area for carrying things, vs the sedan w/o fold down rears seats, buy the hatch, it appears).
If they made it look decent, like the Reno, I’d consider one.
The Verona replacement(kizashi) is what I really want to see( AWD and FWD,like Fusion , is rumored).
Have a good day.
