Suzuki has announced a trio of eco-minded vehicles that will be shown for the first time at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show is set to kick off on December 2.
Regina
Described as Suzuki’s vision of a next-generation global compact car, the Regina places a heavy emphasis on light weight materials and aerodynamics to achieve maximum efficiency. The Regina weighs in at just 1,609 pounds and has a drag coefficient at least 10% lower than anything in Suzuki’s current lineup.
The Regina is powered by an unspecified gasoline engine, but Suzuki says the Regina can return an impressive 75mpg.
Q-concept
Intended to blur the line between motorcycle and car, the Q-concept stretches just 2.5 meters in length and features a unique 1+1 tandem seating arrangement. That small footprint means the Q-concept is extremely maneuverable in urban environments.
The Q-concept has a limited all-electric range, but Suzuki says the four-wheeler is ideal for “shopping, commuting, going to the doctor, transporting children, and all the other short journeys in everyday life.”
The Q-concept can also be configured for small businesses as the rear seat can be removed to form a small cargo area.
Swift EV Hybrid
Taking a page from the Chevrolet Volt’s book, the Swift EV Hybrid features an electric drivetrain with an onboard gas-powered generator. The Swift EV Hybrid can cover up to 19 miles on electric power before the generator kicks on to charge the batteries.
Thanks to its series hybrid technology, the Swift EV Hybrid is able to use a smaller battery that’s quicker to charge, weighs less, uses fewer resources and costs less. Although Suzuki has yet to announce any production plans for the Swift EV Hybrid – which will also be exhibited as the Swift Range Extender in some countries – those factors would help to make a business case for a road-going version of the concept.
