Switzerland’s Green party proposes anti-car legislation

Switzerland has never been the friendliest place on earth for cars, but new legislation could make it the downright meanest place for anything four-wheeled. Switzerland’s Green party has proposed a new regulation that would essentially ban all sports cars and SUVs.

Under the proposed law, any vehicle weighing over 4,820 pounds would be banned from use within the Swiss border. The proposal would also do away with any vehicle that emits more than 250 g/km of CO2, as well as any diesel vehicle that doesn’t have an onboard particle filter.

In the name of pedestrian safety, the plan would also ban any vehicles with front fascias deemed “dangerous to pedestrians,” according to Asphalte.

If the law is enacted, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, M BMWs, AMG Mercedes and S/RS Audis would suddenly become illegal in Switzerland. The only SUV likely to survive the new regulations would be the Lexus RX400h. Porsche would fare slightly better, but only the base model Boxster and Cayman would be allowed across the Swiss border.

However, all hope is not lost for the people of Switzerland. A vote on the subject is probably still a few years out and 90 percent of the initiatives put before the Swiss people have been shot down since 1848.

This is stupid article. Green party has very little cloud in Switzerland and does not enough votes to do anything.

If you’ve been to Zurich, you’ll know that half the cars on the street are exotic sports cars, including AMGs, R8s, Ferraris, Lambos, etc. That legislation would piss off a lot of richies.

Nothing special about this ****ty little dump in the middle of the mountains. If you like your city looking like a Playmobil set overrun with ****ing stupid Guntars all well-behaved and monotonous, then Switzerland is your dump. I prefer the grit and filth of Greece. Plus you get gorgeous pussy and blue ocean everywhere you look.

xyunya is right, the swiss green party has no actual political influence and this is merely a populistic stunt to stirr up some action

Ugh…this is why I do not live in Switzerland. These Gestapo laws are being introduced ever more often on this planet. Pretty soon people aren’t allowed to breathe before asking for permission! What the hell happened to people’s rights?

Ktulu, who ever said Switzerland WAS the best country to begin with?

But to be fair, if anyone is worried about global warming, the Swiss should be the most worried. If their snow melted and people couldn’t ski, there would be little reason for anyone else to go there.

The greenies really love to shoot for the moon. In hopes of just getting someone to notice, its just a statement on their part. Money will prevail and they wil eventually just levi some tax under these rules.
