I was waiting for you to say something beatus! But at least the Smart car is aimed at a Western buyer who just doesn’t need a bigger car, even if I do think you’d be better off with something else. The Nano is aimed at impoverished Indians who can’t buy anything else, it’s only claim to fame is it’s price tag.

And when I look around my friends and family, I do not see many people who enjoy or look forward to driving (Or riding!) the way we do. But I also see that these people DEMAND a certain amount of comfort, safety, and features in their cars. I can’t see any of them going for something like a Nano… Though I’m sure I’ll see a couple on the road, I don’t see them as having a chance in heck at being a success.

Just to be clear, by “drivers” I mean those of us that actually ENJOY driving. Look around your friends and family, and see how many people feel driving is a burden, or how many simply just don’t care. We’re becoming increasingly rare.

Nobody is in disagreement that the Smart car is a solid, relatively safe, and a well engineered piece of machinery (without looking at numbers like horsepower, dimensions, and fuel economy). It is just plain stupid as an automotive concept and design, however.

Never thought I’d see 2Wheel defending a Smart car…

I honestly think that when they come here in full force, we will see them on the road. Maybe not a lot of them, but there will be some progressive types without a lot of pocket change picking these up and using them as daily drivers. To me, it just shows how few and far between we drivers truly are.

As for me, hell, I saw a nice carbon fiber framed cycle with some killer lightweight wheels for a bit over $3,000, and I’d definitely get that, instead.

No superman, Smart cars aren’t 2500 dollar Indian death traps with no Radio, Power windows, air conditioning, anti lock brakes, air bags, remote locks or power steering. And last time I checked Smart cars weren’t glued together. There’s really no new technology in a Nano, just a lack of any technology whatsoever. It’s fine for dirt poor Indians who have never owned a car before, but do you REALLY think an American would buy something like that? I bet you would buy a used car before you would buy a Nano.

The Nano uses glue to hold some stuff together doesn’t it? Do you really want a 180-200ish horsepower motorcycle engine in that plastic and glue deathtrap?

This thing is Rear Wheel Drive, and the layout is the same one used in the 911(Rear Engine, Rear Drive) I’m sure someone in america will buy it and shoehorn a Hayabusa engine in it.
