A small Spanish company named Tauro Auto Sport has just lifted the veil off its very first model, a roadster dubbed V8 Spider. It is based on the now-defunct Pontiac Solstice, also known as the Saturn Sky, the Opel GT and the Daewoo G2X.

Tauro has given the V8 Spider a complete makeover to differentiate it from the Solstice. When viewed from the rear it is not a huge stretch to draw a parallel between it and the Alfa Romeo 4C, while the front end appears to be heavily inspired by the Fisker Karma.

The interior is mostly carried over from the Solstice. It features two bucket seats, a short-throw gear lever and a leather-upholstered dashboard.

The most interesting changes are found under the hood. Tauro tossed away the Solstice's four-cylinder in favor of a Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter V8 that is rated at 440 horsepower and 430 lb-ft. of torque. Customers who want more frills can order the engine in 480, 530 and 650 horsepower tune. Performance figures were not released but given that the car weighs just 2,650 pounds, they should be fairly impressive.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, though buyers can order the roadster with an automatic gearbox for an extra cost.

To handle the extra power Tauro Auto Sport fitted its roadster with an upgraded suspension and a beefier set of brakes.

For the time being the Spanish automaker only plans on building 30 examples of the V8 Spider. Each one will be numbered by a plaque mounted in between the two seats.

When it goes on sale, the Pontiac-based roadster will carry a base of €100,000, which converts to $125,400.
