Dubai’s strong appetite for exotic cars is well-known around the world and the International Motor Show that it hosts every two years always attracts a myriad of exotic and supercar manufacturers.
U.S.-based Shelby SuperCars ( SSC) was one of the companies that made the trip to the United Arab Emirates last month. It wanted to use the occasion to launch the Tuatara in the region and to find a company that would import and distribute it there.
As the show went on, the American supercar manufacturer was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Tuatara wasn’t just attracting importers, it was also attracting customers. SSC came home with ten orders for the car, better than anyone would have dared to expect. That is a fantastic start to the Tuatara’s career and Shelby SuperCars certainly has its work cut out for the future.
While the American automaker can be proud of its Dubai performance, a report suggests that the Lamborghini Aventador did even better, with a whopping fourteen orders gathered at the same show.
As a reminder, the Tuatara is an American-built 1,350 horsepower monster powered by a mid-mounted 7.0 V8 fed with two turbochargers. It hits 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 276 miles per hour. It retails for $1.3 million.
