The CEO of Tesla Motors has gone on record to call a competing electric car, the Fisker Karma, mediocre and expensive. What's more, Musk went on to personally speak out against Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker and his reasoning why electric cars aren't popular.

"It's a mediocre product at a high price," Musk said. "The car looks very big, and yet it has no trunk space and is very cramped inside, particularly in the rear seats." Musk spoke out during an interview with Automobile magazine's rumors section reporting on it.

Musk further opined that Fisker, as a designer, wrongly believes that electric cars aren't popular because they lack great styling. Instead, the issue has to do with technology, according to Musk.

Fisker's sole offering is the Karma, which will compete directly with Tesla's own Model S. While both are four-door sedans, the Model S is purely an electric car, while the Karma uses a GM-sourced, turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder to extend the range of its electric powertrain. Fisker was quick to point this out as a rebuttal to Musk's jabs.

A Karma has recently apparently spontaneously combusted in a parking lot, leading Fisker to issue a recall for the cars. Dealers will replace the low-speed cooling fan and add another fuse to help prevent the issue from reoccurring.
