The panels are first precision cut into the necessary raw shape and size need for the part in question, before they are robotically placed in a stamping machine. The stamping machine itself is is pre-fitted with a custom-made cast for the part to be stamped - in this instance it is a mold for a Models S door. It appears that the company may post more clips outlining other aspects of its production in the coming days and weeks.
Tesla has also launched its new Design Studio for customers looking to tailor their new Model S to their particular taste and budget. The Model S is available in four primary variants: the Model S, Model S Performance, Model S Signature, and the Model S Signature Performance. With the entry model being more stripped back, there are more options on offer for potential customers. With many of these additional components fitted as standard on the more expensive models, those customers can tinker with exterior and interior color combinations as well as their wheel and spoiler preferences.
Although mainstream orders won't start for another three to four months, with the initial production run booking out the factory, customers can start tailoring their model now, saving their preferred options in order to retrieve and send through as an order later. Up until this time, all orders have been configured over the phone, or by email with users having to imagine what the finished product would look like.
Customizations available include a choice of battery sizes (according to mileage and performance requirements), a 580-Watt 12 speaker Dolby Pro Logic 7.1 sound system, paint armor, high-powered charging stations, a tech package including Xenon headlamps and navigation system, active air suspension, alloy wheels and interior combinations. Ultimately, Tesla expects to take the ordering process for its cars completely online giving users the option to visit a dealership, or simply order their car through the web without having to set foot in a dealership.
The success of the recent Space X mission to the International Space Station, Tesla founder Elon Musk is no doubt on a high. With the Tesla Model S launching in less than three weeks, things only seem to be going from strength to strength for the avant-garde entrepreneur.
