Teardown engineer praises Tesla Model 3 electronics, suspensionby Justin King
\"Anybody that’s in the car industry that ignores this car is doing it at their own peril,\" says design consultant Sandy Munro.
As teardown engineers dive deeper into the Tesla Model 3 -- beyond its poorly aligned body panels -- the car has been praised as revolutionary in terms of electronic design.
Speaking to Autoline in a recent video interview, Sandy Munro, head of design consultant firm Munro & Associates, suggests the Model 3's electronic modules are far beyond the rest of the automotive industry. The car's drive modules are compared to the flight controller in the F-35, with closely packed chips similar to the layout of boards in cellphones or high-end computers.
"Anybody that's in the car industry that ignores this car is doing it at their own peril," he said.
The Model 3's battery pack is also said to deliver unprecedented cell balancing, while its suspension system is said to be engineered at a level that would be expected of an "F1 prince."
"This is not inching up," Munro said. "This is revolutionary, and everybody else is sitting there twiddling their thumbs."
