Texas man repairs 2003 Ferrari Enzo wrecked by Eddie Griffin

08/14/2008, 1:18 PM

By Drew Johnson

It seems all too often these days there are headlines of people with more money than driving skills wrecking some of the world’s rarest supercars. In March 2007 Redline star Eddie Griffin made such news when he wrecked a 2003 Ferrari Enzo, but luckily the story has come full circle with the damaged Enzo being nursed back to health.

According to Jalopnik, Texas’ Matt Groner has pieced the Enzo back together over the past several months and the car is now up for sale for a cool $1.3 million.

Although this particular Enzo’s journey could be up for the feel good exotic car story of the year, it almost never materialized. Groner – who typical buys wrecked top-end cars and sells them as is – had some problems prying the car from the hands of the previous owner and was on the fence about mending the once-great supercar. However, once Groner learned that the Enzo’s repairs were limited to bolt-on components, we went ahead with the project. $300,000 worth of parts and seven months later, the Enzo is once again road-worthy.

Groner notes that the $1.3 million price tag isn’t well below the asking price of most original Enzos, but added that his car has a story. “A pretty cool story though,” he said.

New bolt-on parts cost $300,000? I’m suprised that he didn’t take the shell and make a one-off custom out of it. Of course who in their right mind would want to pay 1.3mil for a supercar wrecked by “undercover dumbfvck”?
I’ll never understand it.

Yeah, I second that. I’ll be blown away if anyone actually sees value in that particular “history”

This car has instant stardom history! It was written about in an article on LLN! And some of the world’s greatest dumb@$$’s including myself commented on it! So where does the bidding begin?

I can’t believe the bad guy in that movie is the same guy from That 70’s Show. Everytime I see a commercial for that show and I see the dad, I think of him in Robocop with that wise @$$ new york accent busting caps and just acting like a bad @$$ in general.

Hell, he isn’t far from Nuevo Laredo. He could have taken this thing down to Mexico and had some Virgin Mary’s and crosses and stuff airbrushed down the side to make it look a little tolerable.

But first he’d need to get that hideous red color scraped off and paint the body a nice shade of beige or champagne.

It will sell for about 1.1mil. First of all, there were not many Enzo’s produced, 2nd, there are not many for sale.

Yes indeed Fletch… I do imagine it’ll fetch about a mil… then go sit in some enthusiast’s museum drained of all fluids… never to be touched again.

I did an autotrader search and there are 2 Enzo’s for sale in the US. They are asking 1.5 mil for one with 682 miles. The other price is unlisted.

Doesn’t change the fact the dude can’t drive for sh!t. Still, they should’ve left the Ferrari as it was. Nothing says “slow down” better than seeing a wrecked exotic car on the highway… :P

Yeah, it probably will go for close to a mill, so even though he payed $300,000 to repair it he could potentially make a $700,000 profit… Not too bad I must say…

“A pretty cool story though” – Who are you joking? These days everything has a “cool story!” The Enzo is a cool car, but that story is definitely uncool and un-$1.3mill-worthy.

I wouldn’t touched a repaired Ferrari if it was given to me, you can “fix” carbon fibre. Whoever buys that piece of garbage is a moron, I’d just take the engine and brake system.

Eddie Griffin really doesn’t deserve to bashed for crashing this car. Unlike most rich and/or famous idiots he wasn’t driving like an ass on public roads just to stroke his own ego. He was driving on a closed track for a film. And if you’ve seen the video of the crash one of the first things out of his mouth after the incident is “brother can’t drive”.

And is anybody really surprised the car got repaired? I’d be amazed to learn that any of the crashed Enzos were just left for scrap.

Definitely not a cool enough story for a prospective buyer! I don’t see the problem in finding a buyer for this Enzo but probably not at the asking price though.

Yeah, I dunno how cool of a story that is. Wrecking a supercar is not cool at all actually. Not to mention, why would I pay a premium for a car that’s been in a wreck? Griffin isn’t that much of a celebrity.
