TGIF Video: Fiat vs. Ferrari vs. F1 Car

05/26/2006, 10:11 AM

By admin

Can a Ferrari 575 catch up to a Fiat hatckback after a 31-second head start in a single-lap track race? Better still, can an F1 car catch up to both after waiting 1:27? The results aren’t necessarily surprising, but it’s pretty stunning to see. Video after the jump…

I’m sure there’s no way it was a setup. None at all. Nope.

Not that I’m doubting it could happen, I’m just saying. It’s a nice promotional video.

Pretty easy to do, really. Just time each vehicle on their separate best-lap times, then start everyone staggered depending on the time deficits.

I’m not surprised at the finish at all. It was calculated. My only concern was the F1 car passing the other two so fast at the end.

That was SWEET!! The editing and set-up was even better as they timed it perfectly to pass each other right at the finish…more videos like this please LLN!

This video is a few years old, I believe Eddie Irvine is behind the wheel of the 550 (not a 575).

That “Fiat hatchback” is a Fiat Bravo and the Ferrari is not a 575, it’s a 550. Who writes these things anyway?

It looks like the 1997 F1 car because of the raised nose and it has slick tires. Mercedes McLaren did a similar video using an A1, an AMG somethingorother and a McLaren F1.

the track is Spa for the record (a rather long track, by today’s F1 standards…. longest I think)

Why does the map suck so badly? You can’t see where the different cars are on the track. Talk about ruining the suspense of the race…

The Ferrari driver has a street vehicle that can go really fast but traction on the corners is bad because the tires aren’t like those on the F1. That F1 is geared and rolling for tracks like that.

That is absolutely Irvine driving the 550. You can tell by the green stripe along the bottom of his helmet. The F1 is a F310B (http://www.f1miniatures.com/images/ferrari/f310_2.jpg). Note the engine cover, gold wheels (they switched to silver for ‘98), raised nose, etc. As to who’s driving the Fiat, I can only say that it’s not Luca Badoer, who uses a mostly-yellow helmet.
