For the fifth time, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has ranked as the safest overall city in the "America's Best Drivers Report." According to the study's data, a typical driver in Sioux Falls will be involved in a car accident every 13.8 years, a 27.6 percent lower risk than the national average of once every 10 years.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis at once every 10.1 years is the safest city between 750,000 and 1 million, while Tucson and Lincoln, Nebraska, are the safest in the 500-749,000 and 250-499,999 categories, at 12 and 12.4 years each.
The study ranked the 195 largest U.S. cities using data gleaned over a two year period from January 2009 to December 2010. Allstate looked at its own claims, a measure it says is valid since it represents about 10 percent of all insured drivers in the U.S.
