The Pebble Beach Concours is the creme de la creme of collector car shows, but it has become an increasingly important place for automakers to debut their own new designs as well. The show itself dates back more than 60 years, when its first entrants were practically still "used cars" rather than collectible automobiles. However, as vehicle designs became increasingly driven by regulations, a handful of dedicated preservationists saw value in promoting classics.
The Mercedes-Benz is shown above, while other notable vehicles from Pebble Beach have been included in our photo gallery. Look closely and you might spot a celebrity or two!
The weekend was also notable for its numerous collector car auctions. The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the ex-Jacky Ickx 1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage Lightweight, which found a new owner for $11 million.
Debuts
While Pebble Beach and the auctions remain the weekend's biggest draws, a number of automakers took advantage of the huge gathering of often well-heeled enthusiasts to display their latest wares, many of which were shown for the first time over the weekend.
Aston Martin Vanquish. Aston Martin's new flagship is full of carbon fiber beauty.
BMW Alpina B7. BMW's Alpina partner is back with its most advanced model ever. You can soon buy one, too.
BMW Zagato Roadster. Potentially signifying the Z4 roadster's next direction, this show car complements the already-unveiled Zagato Coupe.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. Yes, the world definitely needs another Veyron.
1930 Cadillacs. The year might be 2012, but Cadillac debuted a pair of ultra-luxurious Depression-era models that were part of its catalog in 1930 but were never actually ordered by customers.
Lamborghini Urus. Making its U.S. debut, Lamborghini's second-ever SUV is even more outlandish than you'd expect.
McLaren X-1 Concept. Absolutely the most outlandish car you'll ever see, the X-1 Concept is said to be headed to an undisclosed collector's garage.
Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Aviator Edition. Rolls-Royce's aviation heritage was showcased in a new variant of its stunning Phantom Coupe.
Shelby GT350. A wider color palette and a number of styling upgrades mark 2013 for the Shelby-modified GT350, which offers up to 624 horsepower.
SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition. When the Viper hits the market later this year, this Le Mans-striped version will be the first you can buy... assuming you've already put your order in, that is.
Vintech Porsche 550 Tribute Looking like an updated version of Porsche's legendary 550, Vintech's creation is a mere one-off.
