The new Mercedes C-Class? Don’t count on it

07/31/2006, 2:27 PM

Here at Leftlane we love artist’s illustrations of yet-to-be-released cars as much as the next guy. But such images become a problem when folks start passing them off as the real thing — especially when said illustrations are very believable. This morning, a number of automotive websites began running images of what they say is the 2007/2008 Mercedes C-Class. Official photo leaks are certainly not uncommon, but these images are anything but official. See the images and an explanation after the jump…

While relatively realistic, there are a few flaws in these photos that confirm they are not authentic:

  • Note the shape of the headlight. It is sharper and more stretched than the spy shots show.
  • Have a look at the seam between the hood and the a-pillar. In the spy photos, the seam runs vertically. In the “leaked” photos, it runs horizontally, as on the past C-Class.
  • The shape of the rear taillight is completely wrong — it does not match any recent spy photos.
  • The seams that converge at the headlights are not placed correctly.

What an ugly car. CTS all the way baby! Everything else is just pretend. Mercedes can try all they want to be Cadillac, but in the end it is the General who builds the “Standard of the World”

Get used to it folks. Nothing tops the Caddy

Caddies are the biggest P.O.S. the only thing they have goin for them is the escalade. they cant build cars. they still cant be COMPARED to the europeans. gimme a break. You buy a Caddie to show your age, not your status. a standard 2007 SL550A(stock SL) beat the XLR-V(souped up Caddy. IMAGINE what a SL55 would do to it.

I like how the GM freaks aren’t using their old names anymore. Sometimes I think I just come to LLN just to read their stupid remarks.

Anyway, I like the new design style that Mercedes is using. The only bad thing is the E class is looking kind of old fasioned now compared to the rest of the line. I love the E class and wish I could afford one.

I agree with Nick. The E-class is there bread and butter. But people are still drawn towards its class and style. The Latest Motortrend magazine said that “Everyone still tries to copy it.” My mom has one and its a nice piece. I’d still take a CLS though.

As a Bimmer man, I’ve never liked Benz. However, my new home is 5 blocks from the Benz dealership and that may just convince me to test drive the next C-class.

Hmm… Could this be a downsized CLS? As in based on the C-Class platform? The image was certainly based on a photo of the CLS… Take a look at the roofline and the doors.

Whatever it is, I like it!

That car is a hot chick in nice makeup!
Look at her big bright eyes and long eyelashes! Stunning!
Don’t you want to take her home and bang her now?

Too bad it’s just a PS because MB would attract a lot of new customers with that look in a C-class sized car.

Cadillac makes nice cars, the STS is the cheapest to own in its class. This car is AWESOME, I would definately buy this car. It has great looks all over. I hopw they make the real thing look like this and give it a CLS derived interior.
