The pontiac solstice in my opinion, is one the best
performance cars of all time.I personally drive a
1996 mustang cobra with a HP performance twin turbo
kit.The car makes about 550hp at the wheels and yet
the solstice would be no more than three car links
behind me in the quarter mile.It makes you think that the boys at GM knew what they where doing when they developed the LS7.Not even the Shelby AC Cobra has posted numbers like that.So lay all jokes to the side, this is one Bad. . .Ass. . .Street. . .Car.

You people who think that Hot Rod simply shoved an LS7 into a Soltice need to read the articles, because you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. While I know damn-well that stats only scratch the surface when it comes to explaining how a car performs in the real world, but dig this

Carrera GT 1/4 mile 11.1 @133 600-foot slalom 73.2 mph 60-0 101'
Corvette Z06 1/4 mile 12.0 @124 600-foot slalom 70.8 mph 60-0 110'
Enzo 1/4 mile 11.0 @133 600-foot slalom 71.0 mph 60-0 106'
Murcielago 1/4 mile 11.7 @133 600-foot slalom 66.2 mph 60-0 110'
Hot Rod Soltice 1/4 mile 10.99 @133* 600-foot slalom 74.9 mph 60-0 95'
*Let's be fair - I'm sure this was a best time, not average... but STILL, damn.

Just for the record, the Solstice posted a 1.05 G on street tires. That's impressive grip, period.

Which of those cars would I take to Gingerman or Laguna Seca (or whatever they're calling it now)? The Carrera GT. Which ones would I buy first? The Solstice. Well, if I had the money, a DB9, but it's not on the list, and I'd buy it for different reasons, but I digress. I bet I could buy EIGHT copies of that Solstice for the price of ONE of those Porsches, and it would be a damn-sight easier to live with every day. Hell, I bet it even gets far better mileage.

As far as I'm concerned, the Hot Rod Solstice is a triumph.

GM will probably never put a V8 in this car - they're just too happy that it makes a profit now, and too scared to spend it away. BUT it'd be nice if they'd listen to the custom shops, and maybe make some slight production line changes so the V8 conversion won't have to cost $20k. That'll keep the market for Solstice-tuning healthy, and of course that means they sell more of 'em.

Greenspeed, pulling G's and handling are completely different things. Handling involves the chassis attitude at the limit, the steering feel, and a multitude of other things. .90 g just indicates it has a lot of grip. Americans confusing the two is the reason the Europeans always sneer at our efforts. That said, I have heard nothing to say that the Soltice does not handle excellent. Most of the magazines I have read have preferred it's hadling to that of the Miata (an issue of nimbleness vs. planted feeling at the limit).

I think that shoving a giant v8 into the soltice accomplishes nothing more than turning one of the few European style cars we get from American corporations into just another high powered muscle car that is no longer great when the road isn't strait.

Wow Jon what an informing comment that was. Now what planet are you from? If you didn't notice the Solstice is SOLD OUT. So how was that a bad move by GM? Your bias is foaming from your ears, you might want to wipe that up.

On a side note...thats a BAD-ASS Solstice

That’s great, another completely worthless GM product. WAY TO GO! Only XXX days until bankruptcy.

GM made a ‘fast, sporty, hip, young car’ that:

Isn’t fast.
Isn’t sporty: since other than the CTS-V, no GM car can actually corner like a European car.
Isn’t hip or young: Pontiac is neither a ‘hip’ nor ‘young’ badge

Well, that’s a couple of tens of millions of dollars down the drain. Yet again, another nice move by GM.

Oh, yes, regarding adding a 600 bhp producing engine to a car that isn’t designed for it and can’t corner to save your life, well…lets just say it can’t save your life.

Jes' because you can down $300 worth of rubber in a Walmart parking lot; you'll still look like Buffy and Sandy from Middleburg H.S.

The bad news: Buffy has already asked her mom for a new VW Eos because she reel-leey wants a 'hardtop convertible'.

I don't think they'll do that, the GXP is probably fast enough for a production car. They have the normally aspirated four, soon a turbo four (GXP), but if they keep those (likely), I doubt they'd get another 2 engine options.

But yeah, thats cool.
