This day in history: First Buick sold

07/27/2006, 1:54 PM

By admin

On this day in 1904, Dr. Herbert Hills of Flint, Michigan, purchased the first Buick automobile ever to be sold. The sale came only weeks after the first Buick made its initial test run. During that test, the Buick averaged 30mph on a trip around Flint, going so fast at one point that the driver “couldn’t see the village six-mile-an-hour sign.” Sixteen Buicks were sold in the next few months.

And for the past 100+ years, buick has stood for quality, luxury and style. Something that no POS Mercedes, BMW, Lexus or Acura can match. Good job GM, still the best. When all the trash (Mentioned above) gets wiped off the face fo the planet, you will find that owners of Buick vehicles will remain proud of their purchase

GM number1-4ever must be a ten year old boy who had wet dreams about GM motors. Get over it Buick has had nothing to offer ever and should be in a cemetery next to oldsmobile and plymouth.

If you want to drive a Lesabre instead of a GS430 or a E320…that’s your call, but simply bashing other brands by stating that they are POS’ and not providing as to why you think they are worse than GM cars is simply childish. Also, you seem to be in denial about GM’s quality as of late and their crap-tacular financial situation.

Take it from a long time (46 yrs) GM fan (chevrolet) that they no longer have what I want and haven’t been building it for some time. In all of those years I have never strayed from them. But, now I am driving a 2005 Chrysler 300C and a Nissan 350 Z. GM, what the hell happened?

30 mph. in a 6 mph. zone? These days, Buicks are driven at 6 mph in a 30 mph zone, with the turn signal permanently on.

Another one… going 50 in a 55 with a line-up of cars a mile long behind… and not a cop in sight… and a constant stream of cars in the opposing lane so passing is not an option.

Be honest… does anyone here actually own a Buick? Other than the Grand National, I can’t really recall a Buick I’d turn my head for on the street.

#14 Dav….. GMrules, GMnumber1-4-ever and Anonymous are all of the same person. He’s the only one who worships GM and he had to make up two more people to make us believe that there are more GM fans.

Nice try, GMrules or whoever u are!

Buick is for old geezers. No matter how hard GM tries to make it younger, it will always be for old geezers. Its GM’s fault for selling it to them earlier and now they are screwed. Drop the brand already!!

Really? My Turbo Regals would probably disagree, so would my wifes Supercharged Regal GS, or my 72 Buick Skylark GS. Look into it, there are alot of us out there who would “really rather drive a Buick”. The Buick GS Stage 1 in 1970 had more torque of ANY other muscle car of the era. 510 stump pulling ftlbs of torque. Yes, more than even the Hemi Cuda and the Chevelle 454 LS-6. Sure they do not make anything exciting right now, but not many car manufacturers do at this point. But on the other hand, the quality is still there.

Long live Buick!!!!!

The only Buick worth owning is the upcoming Buick Enclave. All other new releases like the LaCrosse and Lucerne while a big improvement over the outgoing models fails to light up the passion. It is GM at its GENERIC best- styling is way too derivative of other import makes. Spare us the lies GM fanatics, don’t mess up the boards just tell the truth while GM is recovering, its vehicles have still a lot to go before they can measure up to the imports.

^ ^ LOL #30, are u an idiot or what? Put down that can and wipe ur nose.
Its a pure copy of ‘96-’99 Taurus (front end) and ‘00-’05 Taurus (side profile and rear taillights). All the reviews in mags criticized how Lacrosse looked dated and how they copied the Taurus. Guess the designers were too lazy!!

Its for old geezers with bad memories that they dont know its a copy of a Taurus.

That’s funny Jon (#8), you do that very same thing about GM cars in posts all over this site, you never state any evidence, reasons or conclusions either, as the rest of the adolescent GM basher’s do on this site. None of you have a clue about cars or yhe industry at all. Looking at the times the posts start coming in, your all weenies at home on Summer vacation…..waiting for school to start again.

#31. Nope, I don’t consider myself an idiot. With a Bachelor of Science degree, I humbly consider myself smarter than most. You’re being a Childish Crybaby – coming on to this blog and calling others names. Go get a job or something.

I didn’t say the ‘99 LeSabre is a styling break through by any means. But, it’s a very reliable car – period.

I agree the Lacrosse doesn’t have the best exterior design, and I didn’t write about the Lacrosse. Learn to read especially before coming on to a blog and bashing people.
