General Motors has announced the recall of certain 2011 model year full-size pickup trucks. The recall, due to a faulty rear axle, involves 1,262 vehicles.
According to General Motors, some 2011 Cadillac Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models may have been fitted with a defect rear axle cross pin. The pin was improperly heated, which could lead to a fracture and the ultimate failure of the rear axle.
GM warns that if the pin does fracture, drivers may hear a banging noise followed by the rear axle completely locking. If that situation occurs, a crash could happen without warning.
The recall is officially slated to begin next month. No accidents or injuries have been linked to the defect.
