TopGear got a chance to drive Volvo ’s new C70 T5 convertible in blood-hot Dubai this month. Reviewer Paul Horrell has mixed feelings about the car. On one hand, its light-pressure T5 engine “swaddles you in comforting low-down torque then just keeps on keeping on.” Horrell describes the whole powertrain as well suited to the C70′s “swift, but not hectic, nature.” On the other hand, “you can’t be hectic with it. The steering doesn’t like you mixing acceleration with cornering – if you do, the self-centring goes all wobbly and it hunts cambers.” As for the car’s suspension system, it’s quite similar to other Volvos. “Well, the Swedish engineers might like it, and for all I know their customers might like it too, but I don’t. It’s not just a comfort thing, it’s that the car never feels entirely precise. It’s blurred, out of sync with itself.”
