Top Gear put on hold; Hammond walks, makes jokes

09/25/2006, 8:13 AM

By admin

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond took his first steps Saturday following a 300 mph accident that left him with “significant” brain trauma last week. Hammond has been moved to a general ward, where he has been talking and sharing jokes. Meanwhile, there is building concern over the future of the Top Gear TV series following the BBC’s decision to postpone the new season of the show. Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson are reportedly concerned the organization could cancel the show all together. Writing in the Sunday Times, Clarkson said there are “swarms of bureaucratic bluebottles [...] nibbling away at the crash site on a York airfield, desperately trying to find some reason why Top Gear should be banished from our screens.” At the same time, producer Andy Wilman has threatened to quit if the BBC attempts to “tone down” the show.

And why would anyone want to cancel it? If the ratings are there, what is the problem?

Problem some politically correct groups out there, and groups aligned with parents would want to shut down the show, or something. I hope Hammond recovers enough to be on the show. I also hope they find a good replacement, if it ever comes to that, (with significant brain damage, the chances are probably good.)

The producers have said they won’t do Top Gear without Hammond, so if he is unfit to continue the show will be cancelled/reformatted etc.

Also if the producers were found to be negligent in any way the show could be cancelled.

Jeremy clarksons wrath at the bluebottles is unfounded as well. There was a serious accident during the makeing of A TV show, the Health ans Safety executive are obliged to investigate, they are not trying to take the TV show off air. Clarkson is being dishonest to stir up dislike of regulations amongst the uneducated
