Top Gear’s Richard Hammond in critical condition

09/20/2006, 6:03 PM

By admin

Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame was in critical condition today following a massive accident in Britain. He was driving a jet-powered “Vampire” when the vehicle overturned at up to 280 mph. Inspector Mike Thompson, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “At 5.45pm this evening we received a report via the fire service of a male person trapped in what was described as an overturned jet car which had been driven on the airfield. The male occupant has received serious injuries and has been airlifted to hospital at Leeds.”

I bet it wont take long for the video to show up on YouTube or some other sight. What a shame. Hopefully he was wearing protective gear, and will pull through.

He’s been confirmed as stable now by the hospital. Apparently the car left the track on one of the last planned runs and flipped into the grass.

While this is a truly unfortunate incident, I believe we all have to accept the risks that come with driving at 280mph. If he was going at 70 and bad **** happens to him, I’d be more sorry.

Of course there’s risks and everyone knows that, that still doesn’t stop the fact that a man was in critical condition after an accident? Sorry but you’re coming off very cold here, I mean are you saying that anyone dies in a car crash should be blamed even if it’s not their fault saying, well you should’ve flown because statistically it’s safer. A good man was hurt, I think that’s enough to be sorry for.

i feel like he will be alright! pull through man, youll drive 280mph again! I am actually pretty impressed he is not disintigrated at 280….. thats crazy, what is this venom anyway?

Phileas, no my point being that he was not driving because he had to but he did it to prove something at the risk of his life for the sake of personal glory. There’s a difference between getting into an accident while driving normally and intentionally risking your life doing “spirited driving.” Thus my personal feeling that he had hurt himself rather than pure bad luck. In any case, I wish him speedy recovery.

BTW Phileas, as I’ve mentioned in past postings, there’s no speed limit where I’m at so **** like what happened to Hammond happens all the time. Seeing severed body parts on the street is nothing unusual. Perhaps thus my cold mentality.

I wish “Hamster” a speedy recovery cos we need him back.

He knew the risks and he did it because it is his passion – he won’t regret the attempt or his work if he survives. Go into these things in such a way: No regrets. It wasn’t irresponsible driving endangering the public so it was fine. Get well soon Hammond, so your whitened teeth shine again on screen.
