This truck is a lot bigger in person than expected. and $$$. Hate the slide out tray they now have in the back and that old-style fixed antennae, but glad they kept the power window in the tailgate and it does ride pretty smooth for a truck.

Low quality interior that looks like it could have been pulled out of the 80′s, bouncy ride, decent off-road performance and a Mitsubishi front end… maybe they should have sold this design to Mitsu instead…

i like the plastic rock bars, almost looks like a police spec crown vic now! definitely gonna help you push another car up the mountain with a 4cyl in the engine bay.

One Toyota I actually like… but I’d still buy a Wrangler or an Xterra if i really needed comfort with my off-roader.

This 4runner looks really good in person, and I like it alot. This is not just a good looking, but it’s tough. I never doubt about it off-road ability.

Very thorough review Andrew… trouble is I’m not sure who’s paying attention anymore. They really burned their bridge with the last generation. My boss had a limited… what a plodding tank. And for god’s sake Toyota at least offer a manual even if it’s an extra cost option. We know this is never quite going to be a Wrangler, but if for no other reason than to avoid having the 4 banger leave a trail of slime when it comes off the line you should be able to get a 3 pedal setup on something like this.

We drove the sr5 and limited versions, knowing how the previous 4runner drove like, this beats its in EVERY way! This is a real suv, that is great on-road, but will also unleash a world of pain to the rocks it climbs over!

I’m not really liking what Toyota did with the new 4Runner. The exterior styling isn’t bad, but it doesn’t quite match up to the previous gen in my opinion, same for the interior, looks too much like an FJ now. I also hate the fact that Toyota only offers the X-REAS on the Limited and did away with the Sport trim.

I’m usually no fan of Toyota styling but for some reason I don’t hate this. It looks tough without using a lot of the current “tough” cliches used by other SUVs and crossovers ad nauseum. The sheetmetal is a little too squared off and bumpy but it works with the proportions. It looks like it took a lot of cues from the FJ Cruiser.

A 4-cyl is avail on this thing? If its the same on one the tacoma short box reg. cab….. its terribly underpowered for that… I can only imagine how horrible it would be in this thing.

Side note: i liked the old 4runner better, it was somewhat uniquely styled for a SUV. This looks like every other truck toyota makes now.
