Toyota on Friday officially announced its new FJ Cruiser. The $23,000 SUV represents a revival of the company’s legendary FJ-40, which was last sold in the United States in 1983. The new FJ echos ’50s styling, with many classic FJ styling cues, including a two-door body style (with rear access doors for easy passenger entry), a wide grille with a prominent Toyota logo, round headlights, an upright windshield, white-capped roof and wraparound rear-corner windows. The five-passenger FJ Cruiser rides on a modified 4Runner chassis and draws its power from a 4.0-liter, 245-hp, 282-lb-ft V6 engine. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard on two- and four-wheel-drive models, with a six-speed stick available on four-wheel-drive models only. A video is available of the unveiling of the new FJ Cruiser.
