  2. Okay folks… time to buy used!

The used car market is absolutely loaded with quality vehicles right now… and the dealers want rid of them so they can take in more trades on these overpriced new cars.

I know one thing… the 2006 Cobalt I have is the last new car I’ll ever buy. Too much depreciaction… and way too many electronic nannys in new cars these days.

  4. Ok I can understand raising the cars prices but being that no one is buying trucks they should really either keep the same price, lower it or give gas cards.

That reminds me of a woman in florida who said the answer to falling home prices is for sellers to raise their asking prices

  7. They can’t bear the fact that consumers are driving the market. I bought a 2006 vehicle in 2007 and the price depreciate by 50%. Why buy new to take the hit? By the way if the market stay the same until year end they will have to offer hugh incentives for the the new vehicle to leave dealer lots, so consumers just watch the market and don’t be quick and centimental about buying new vehicles.

  8. I could see it being ,marketing trick: it is not retroactive, Consumer will see one car with higher price and 10 with lower. Older inventory will flush off the lot. Can backfire on trucks and large not fuel efficient vehicles. Fuel efficient ones are flying off the lots with premiums on top.

  9. What’s the plural of dull? All that list does is remind me what a incredibly snoozeworthy lineup of vehicles Toyota/Lexus has. Other than the IS there’s nothing I could get even remotely get excited about.

  12. Yeah, raising pricing sure will make customers running into showrooms when economy is in the toilet. Smart move.

  13. johnny, true. However, Ford has very dull list to pick off and they don’t make money like Toyota. And there is very little to jump about at GM dealership as well, unless you are into trucks. We have dull lineups from losers and moneymakers. There is a hope that moneymakers will produce something in the future. Losers, we have to see.

  14. Umm… wasn’t it just last week that people were kicking and screaming how it was such a ripoff that GM was raising the price of the Malibu by $300?

I suppose since this is Toyota, it’s somehow perfectly acceptable.

    Gotta love those double standards!

  15. Maybe this increase will cause a drop in sales resulting in less of these visual blights on the road.

  16. Q. What’s the difference between Toyota and GM?

    A. When Toyota raises prices, they don’t stoop so low as to blame CAFE.

Comment by howsmydriving, posted on May5 at 10:55 pm
  17. It’s not CAFE, it’s yen/dollar.

  18. autonut: have to half disagree with you on this one. Ford at least has the Mustang. And as for GM well, in no particular order…G8, Vette, Cobalt SS, Impala SS, Solstice and soon to be, Camaro. Yes, Toyota is the moneymaker and offers a well rounded lineup, but it is not exciting. They used to be. If they ever decide to be again life could be interesting. Playing catch up, however, is not as easy at it seems even when you have money.

  19. Nobody is buying anyways with the economy in the toilet and automakers decide to raise prices - wtf is with that?

  21. At least they’re not increasing the prices of gasoline by 20% like where I’m at now. That’s like almost instant death to anything above 3.0.

  25. Didnt you bash GM for raising price of Malibu $300, atleast they gave customers 2 more gears.

Comment by shaver, posted on May6 at 10:30 am
  26. Well Razor bumps

The thing with GM is that they have unproven vehicles and Toyotas are already proven along with Honda’s (R,R BQ)
GM needs to keep prices low in order to compete with the superior Japanese comp from Honda and Toyota. No one is going to buy a Chevy over a Honda or Toyota unless they only drive Chevys and watch NASCAR
If they want import buyers in Malibus they have to offer a deal undercutting the price much like Hyundai does and by raising their prices they are doing the Opposite of that

  27. GM executives must have transfered to Toyota.

  29. Why should I move to Japan bc Japanese cars are proven better than domestics ?
They sell cars right here in the good ole ‘ US of A. If I want to perform bukakke on someone Ill call your wife I hear shes into pearl neclaces
Thats not your Daddys Oldsmobile Yea cuz my they were in existence then

  31. 1115 stop useing Honda and toyota in the same sentence…Unless that sentence is “Honda builds quality cars and Toyota no longer can.”

Comment by Bubs Solo, posted on May7 at 12:32 pm
  32. Toyota and Honda are even as far as quality and resale goes I personally think that Toyotas are less inspiring than Honda and more expensive but they do offer a more complete line than Honda
GM Ford are about even with quality being that they are both **** and Cerebrus can clean up Chryler so they will be back in the running soon
GMS especially suck and they dont know their place either. Their place is on the bottom just like Injuraiv just ask AMG
