Toyota Auris concept: 2007 Corolla previewed?

09/28/2006, 10:58 AM

By admin

Toyota today unveiled the Auris “Space Concept” at the Paris Motor Show. While the automaker has not publicly said it, the car is widely believed to preview the next-generation 2007/2008 Corolla. The concept features panoramic glass roof, wide shoulders and short overhangs, sports-styled 19-inch alloy wheels, freeform geometric lamps, prominent brake callipers and deep rear bumper with integrated chrome exhausts.

The gold exterior paint finish and interior piping reflect the car’s name, aurum being the Latin word for gold. Wahei Hirai, Toyota Global Design Managing Officer explains: “The Auris space concept is tall and spacious. The high waistline, short overhangs and forward balance of the cabin architecture ensure it retains a sense of dynamism and agility, a quality we call perfect imbalance.” Gallery after the jump…

I’d be willing to bet that this will be the next Matrix. A sedan version will follow suit later. But I like the color scheme, it’s an exotic color.

Bring this over with the 2.4 from the Scion tC, with a stick and AWD, and it’ll sell very well.

Another Yaris knock off.
Toyota, please be more original. You can’t have all your cars looking alike…

Get rid of the altezza lights & make it more production like.

Looks like a next gen Yaris looking from the front. Too cute for a Corolla to go against the current Civic. Simple enough to be the actual production vehicle but I bet the gold’s not gonna stay.

I’m not a Toyota fan but even I’d drive this. This is what the Yaris should have been.

Chevy WTCC also has 2 less doors, I wouldn’t make that comparison.

I would buy it. Both of my vehicles have been 3-door hatchbacks, and my wife now drives a 5-door Mazda 3s. I really don’t like the size of SUVs, but I need more room thna a trunk can provide. We seriously need more shooting brakes and shorty station wagons on the market… and not tallish x-over versions, either.

“Ya know.. GM years ago taught the Japanese how to build cars. Why can’t GM move beyond it’s little square of thought and design interiors like this… Interiors that start something. Interiors that don’t blend. It’s very maddening… ”

The interior was designed at Toyota EDC in France.
