Toyota has unveiled a wagon variant of its European Auris compact at the Paris Motor Show. Dubbed the Auris Tourer Sports, the wagon joins the Auris sedan and Auris hatchback in Toyota's European lineup.
Set to compete with vehicles like the Ford Focus and Opel Astra, the all-new Auris Tourer Sports marks the first time Toyota has offered a wagon body style in the Auris lineup. The Auris Tourer Sports borrows most of its design cues from the Auris hatchback, but offers customers a much larger loadspace.
In addition to being the first Auris wagon, the Tourer Sports is also the first vehicle in its segment to offer a full-hybrid powertrain. No details were given, but the Tourer Sports hybrid will likely pair a 1.8L gas engine with an electric motor backed by nickel metal hydride batteries.
The Auris Tourer will also be available with conventional gas and diesel powerplants.
No official word from Toyota, but the Auris Tourer Sports should hit the market sometime in 2013.
