Plagued by sluggish sales last month, Toyota nonetheless says that it thinks fiscal year 2010 sales will be better than it previously suggested. The Japanese automaker upped its sales forecast to 2.17 million vehicles in North America – an increase from the 2.13 million it had suggested earlier.
Those figures are for Toyota ’s fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2011, and they represent a roughly 3 percent increase over fiscal year 2009′s 2.098 million vehicles.
Toyota’s sales stumbled in July, but they were strong in the April-June quarter – including Scion and Lexus , the automaker sold about 526,000 units, or a 36 percent increase over the year before.
The automaker’s boosted sales figure comes as its market share also continues to decline – down to 16.1 percent from 17.5 percent at this time last year.
