Toyota introduced its latest version of America's best selling passenger car in 2007 and hasn't looked back. The Camry comes to market again, with an inline four-cylinder and V6 model but also includes a Camry Hybrid model with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive.
Available as a stand-alone model, the Camry Hybrid is well equipped with standard features including P215/60 R16 tires with 16-inch wheels and wheel covers, a tire pressure monitor system, smart entry with push button start, AM/FM CD player with MP3 capabilities, and power windows and locks. An Optitron meter monitors the Hybrid Synergy drive to assist with achieving efficiency from the hybrid-electric powerplant underhood.
The Camry Hybrid has limited options, which include a tilt/slide moonroof, voice activated DVD navigation system with satellite-ready, 440-watt JBL premium audio system, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and a leather-trimmed interior. They are available in upgrade packages, which also deliver 16-alloy wheels into the mix.
Safety does not suffer in this, the new generation of Camry. Dual-stage front, side-seat, side-curtain, and driver's knee airbags are standard throughout the Camry lineup. Stopping power is assisted with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) as well as Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) component. An optional Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) assists to reclaim traction in turns. The Camry Hybrid is equipped with Toyota's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system that controls throttle response, brake application on individual wheels and even minor steering corrections, if needed.
The Camry Hybrid is powered by Toyota's Hybrid Synergy drive, whose backbone is the 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i). The aluminum alloy engine, which has straight power output of 147 horsepower @6000 rpm and 138 lb-ft of torque, is mated to Toyota's permanent magnet synchronous motor, where it achieves a net horsepower rating of 187 horsepower.
Using revised EPA estimating procedures, the Camry Hybrid's mileage slots in at 33 mpg/city, 34 mpg/highway, and 34 mpg/combined.
In addition to the standard Camry's basic limited warranty coverage, the Camry Hybrid is equipped with an 8-year/100,000 warranty for Hybrid-related components. Several states have extended coverage for the same items. Check with your local dealer for de
