Worst.
Commuter.
Coffin.
Available.
in America.

"Camrys are daily transportation for just about every type of buyer." Mostly every type except the alive and or intelligent.

I've never been a fan of big-displacement fours. 2.2 is big inough. Bigger than that, just go to an I-5.

"so many Americans feel comfortable at the wheel of a Camry." After my little sister's '05 camry blew up on her, she can be scratched off that list.

Why you wouldn’t"

you know it's The One You Ought To Avoid.

"It will almost certainly start every morning and get you to work drama-free for over 100,000 miles."

You sure? i've never seen a Camry odometer that high. I did read about one in the newspaper, though.

carmaster4ever: "if they gave me one for FREE, I'd leverage it immediately into something I actually wanted.

CADDY-V: "i would take a free one and trade it in to another dealer in less than an hour."
Yep.

carmaster4ever: "yea but an Accord is the same price and its bigger." Not to mention a lot better.

Bosley: "You’re getting a comfortable, reliable car." Either that or a Camry.

DenverGuy217: The Camry does make for a great commuter car if you live within a 90-second walk of your workplace.

johnnycanuck: "All of a sudden I have the oddest craving for a bowl of vanilla ice cream." good one.

JakeK66: "This is the first version of the Camry I actually like the looks of."

The '99 camry (With the "T" on the front) was the only really attractive one. best interior, too.

"all I could think about was the fact the Camry looked like a much bigger better built car." Looks can be decieving.

iluvamcars: "The Camry is a very reliable and quality built sedan." Your standards are low if you believe that.

masteryoda83: 'I have always respected Toyota with their build quality and their ability to dupe millions of americans into thinking they make the best cars on the planet."

That's genius.

Spingood Tanoya: "I also rented a Camry recently and was frankly shocked at how bad it was." I'm not.

jayjc08: "why do people still buy these things when they have some EXCELLENT vehicles such as the Fusion, Malibu, Accord and Mazda6 to choose from."

I don't get it either. hell the Sebring, (YES!) is a better choice than the Camry/ES.

Damn you and your social experiments, S-60!

But really, we didn't side with the Japanese car. We were just against the destruction of someone else's property. I would be really mad if someone did something like that to my car, no matter what car I had.

I'm just glad you weren't truly stupid. Thanks for clearing it up.

Actually I think you're right beatus, S60 is probably yapping in order to sound like a big dog thinking he looks cool that way even if he does have the narrow mentality to actually believe in what he says.

I don't believe S-60 actually does the things he says he does. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's not stupid enough to damage another person's property just because he doesn't like it.

If it wasn't for the (revised) engine I would barely call this an update.

Poor fuel economy, poor quality, poor material choices and poor driving experience... why do people still buy these things when they have some EXCELLENT vehicles such as the Fusion, Malibu, Accord and Mazda6 to choose from, at either thousands less or with many more features?

Wow, This is an ugly looking car.

The interior of the camry looks cheap compared to the competition today.

who would've guessed that 6 years ago.

No thanks.

My money is on either the 2010 Ford fusion Sport or Nissan Altima.

I dont know.^^

Maybe they work for Toyota. Or maybe they have a rental car. Apparently you drive a Volvo S60. I may be wrong though. How would you like it if someone made a massive scratch on your shiny Volvo for no reason at all only because they found other cars more attractive. Thats like shooting someone because the person standing next to them look better.

lol, who cares!! Camry is way too boring and i question all drivers' taste when it comes to picking a Camry over a Fusion, Malibu, Passat, and others. I mean, WTF....sooo simple! More styling than plain vanilla Crap-mry!

U all should applaude for me for doing those things. I hope it opens their eyes when its time for a new car and pick better looking, non-Jap cars.

I think if I ever caught S-60 the cops would have to pull me off of him in cuffs. I'm not thrilled by the Camry but the arogance to think his opinion is what the rest of the world should worship and therefore he's allowed to damage what others spent their hard earned money to buy gauls me. Even the disrespect by flipping the bird just because somebody's driving a particular brand car would probably cause me to drive him off the road.

Wow, S-60. Even if it causes you to throw up in your mouth, that doesn't give you the right to destroy someone else's property. If you don't like it, don't drive it. That's it.

At least no one here is buying the Camry for its resale value. Those that actually like it genuinely DO like it, and it's good that THEY are buying it. Those that buy for resale value are messed up in the head, and should be buying US bonds instead.

Not really a fan of the outlined front grille. I think the one previous was quite a 'different' looking grille - as for the rear, making it all shiny with LEDs does make it a bit cheaper/aftermarkety looking. I would have been more of a fan if it was a re-design of the tail lamps that was more incorporative of the LEDs

"..........the Camry’s ability to sell based on its reputation can’t last forever."

Leave it to LLN to drop the ball.
Why test drive the car now? It's been out for 3 years!

When the Camry stops doing virtually everything well, it lose it's reputation

...........the Camry’s outlook isn’t quite as bright as it was.................

Pretty ignorant commentary, as it outsells the Silverado now, and sees sales INCREASES due to the CARS program

Camry will change the day people stop stampeding to the store to get one!

(Did I mention it's 3 years into a 5-year cycle?)

Toyota nailed it with Camry, as per usual
They kinda left that out of the review
So much for accuracy!

I go to LLN for day-old car news and the pithy attempts at wit by the shut-ins......I mean......bloggers

I love the comments. I have seen and driven the Camry, Accord, Fusion, and Malibu. All are very interchangeable - dull suburban and American. I cannot for the life of me see how the appearance of the Camry is any blander than the GM and Ford offerings zzzzzzz.... or, for that matter, why you'd buy a car this size when it has virtually no bigger an interior than a size smaller.

Ehh, the Camry doesn't make a audacious styling statement, but it's not something to detest either. Though, I would prefer an Accord sedan. :]

Nothing BI-POLAR about having a Camry and a Cayman in the same driveway. It actually makes sense. The right tool, for the right job. Camry does very well idling from traffic light to traffic light. You can dump mileage onto it, and resale is still great. It does not break down. It does not make people jealous at work. And on the weekend, you pull out the Cayman for spirited driving.

People who can't afford both camry and Cayman, but a BMW 3-series.. and convince themselves that they have the ultimate driving machine, when really they are driving the ultimate compromising machine. Jack of all trades, master of NONE.

Hey leftwing - I'm not taking it back! The 350z was a thing of beauty - it's lines were crisp and everything flowed. The 370z looks like some sort of anime version of the 350z and I don't like it. It's rear end makes me question who signed off on it's final design with that triangle looking thing between the exhaust. Does it have an optional Towing Package now?

Also, I find the Genesis refreshing that it's NOT like the Japanese designs. It's a classy look similiar to that of the current M45, designed before this ugly wave came through. The Genesis Coupe though, I don't like. It's just too fadish in design and I don't think will look good 5-10 years down the line.

I also give Mazda a pass on this rant, I like the current Mazda6 and don't hate the new Mazda3 either, but I never picture Mazda in the same boat as the other Jap3. Mazda is the outsider that can see what others are doing wrong and not make their mistakes - except the highly criticized 3 front end.

Clown noses or beaks..... Cars that either look like fish (nissan's LEAF) or bowls of ice cream, anything but cars.......Apparently vehicle aesthetics is a very hard thing for car companies to deal with and provide a happy medium that most customers will be happy with (if they're lucky).....Some vehicles in specific segments may drive so similar and offer most of the same options that the only thing that people can really choose or determine is style.......Like the now old Vibe/Matrix combo where the car was mostly the same, with the largest difference being exterior style to satisfy the largest number of potential buyers.....

jake, you done gone in-sane (drawl that out redneck style)...the 370z is hott (yes, with two t's), and much less awkward looking than the 350z...especially the convertible 370z...i also have to admit i'm a mazdaspeed 3 fan, and while it's not the prettiest car in the world, it's most definitely a fun ride...

i do think that the number of sporty offerings from across the pacific has dwindled over the past 5-10 years, but they still do make some fun rides (and hyundai is making a decent stab at it with the genesis coupe)...you've earned some flogging over the 370z comment, though, shame on you!

...That being said, I realize Toyota has the most boring style on Earth, and it's hard to imagine it invoking any feelings of any sort in anybody, but I've gotta say, I HATE Toyota's new design cue (flaw?) of putting that bulbous ovaloid "T" on the front of their cars!!! Especially on small cars, like the two-door Yaris. It looks like a clown nose, or God's sake. I'd really like to paint one up (someone else's, of course) in clown makeup some day, and stick fake pointy hair on the sides & top...

Who was it that said, back when the mileage figures for the '10 Fusion were released, "Yeah, but you're comparing a '10 Fusion to an '09 Camry. Just wait until Toyota reveals the 2010 Camry, I'm SURE it will beat this American POS"?

Oh, wait, I think we all know who it was...
