What the heck is Toyota doing, building a high quality, high mileage, technical tour-de-force in this day and age? Aren’t they supposed to be building shareholder value instead like GM did for the last three decades?

What Toyota should be doing is to design and build cars no one wants to buy, like GM and Chrysler. Then you can lose so much money you have to beg your government (and your neighbors) to bail you out.

Prius is fleet car for city government in NYC, never mind Japan. You should see them littering streets by municipal buildings with city tags on them.

Toyota probably will be loosing money on new Priuses, not old ones. At this point this old technology cost significantly less.
