Earlier this year, we told you about Toyota ’s plan to sell a Tundra with an Ironman trim to reflect off-road truck racer Ivan “Ironman” Stewart. Now, the automaker is offering the trim on Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser trucks, with more equipment as part of the package.
The trucks will hit dealers this summer, with each packages comprised of a supercharger, Magnaflow exhaust, Bilstein shock, Hella light bar, Hurst pistol-grip shifter and 20-inch General tires surrounding Alcoa rims. The upgrades are covered by Toyota ’s warranty and is installed at dealers from kits supplied by Halo Special Edition Vehicles located in Irvine, California. This allows for the flexibility to install the package on any Tundra, Tacoma of FJ Cruiser in stock.
In the Tundra, the package adds 123hp to the 5.7-liter V8, a useful bump from the standard 381hp. The 4.0L V6-powered Tacomas and FJs benefit from a 65 horsepower bump, now 304, as per an Automotive News report. Not all the parts need to be purchased, as buyers can opt for one or two, and not pay for the others. The supercharger seems to be the only stand-alone option, as costs for the packages range from $8,000 to $20,000.
The automaker recently slowed production of its full-size pick-up, admitting it won’t sell the projected 200,000 units of the Tundra this year. Whether or not the Ironman package helps to boost those sales remains to be seen.
