Denying a report from earlier this month, Toyota says it is not considering a tie-up with Germany’s Daimler. The refuted report – published July 1st – claimed Toyota was mulling building its own version of Mercedes’ A- and B-Class vehicles and that the two automakers were considering co-development of their flagship models.
Germany’s auto motor und sport published a report earlier this month that claimed Toyota was readying its own versions of Mercedes’ A- and B-Class vehicle to gain a better foothold in the European market, but Toyota says no such plans are under consideration. The Japanese automaker also denied that it was working with Mercedes to co-develop the automakers’ flagship vehicles, the Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class .
“We are denying this completely,” Toyota spokesman Yuta Kaga told Reuters. “There is no truth to anything written in the article.”
The Toyota-badged A- and B-Class vehicles were tipped to debut sometime around the midpoint of next decade.
Daimler wasn’t as strong worded as Toyota in denying the rumor, simply calling the report “speculation”.
