Toyota downplays Ford alliance rumors

12/27/2006, 6:52 PM

By admin

While Ford has acknowledged rumors of a meeting between its leadership and Toyota executives, Toyota spokesman Tomomi Imai is downplaying the talks. “It was just a get-acquainted meeting,” she said, adding Toyota’s top executives constantly meet with other automakers.

Ford spokesman Oscar Suris made a similar statement: “I can’t confirm or deny the report other than to say that we have discussions with participants in our industry all the time.”

Speculation of alliance talks emerged yesterday when the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said the two companies met to discuss a potential partnership. Toyota Chairman Fujio Cho and Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally met last week as a first step.

Me?….Oh…the question should be for my family, relatives and friends…Do they shop Toyota…Yes…(most of them). If TOMOCO ever partnered with FOMOCO, I will move to Honda althought I really don’t like their cars.

Wow Elvio. You are so smart! You will move to Honda because you do not like Toyota… and you do not like Honda either. Just another example of http://www.hatetoyota.com.

Let us not forget that Toyoto currently has a partnership with GM. It is not entirely clear what a partnership with Ford would bring that its partnership with GM lacks.

Even though Toyota has relationships with GM, it looks like Toyota is now holding all the cards and can now pick, choose, and dump any of its relationships should Toyota see fit.

Good post deantj I agree, I’m not really a FORD fan but could you imagine a reliable car with lots of appeal. This could be a win/win situation, well maybe for Ford anyway. Cheers.

Toyota and Ford together equals T-Ford and therefore ‘Totally F__ked on Race Day.’ But how is this any different from Toyota in Formula 1 so far?
