Unless LLN meant “to aid the automaker” (which would likely refer to Toyota) instead of “to aid the automakers” (plural, more than just Toyota, maybe not even Toyota themselves)…

…Toyota was likely pushing for a loan as an incentive to develop fuel-efficient vehicles.
Maybe Toyota won’t even need any.

It is just that, the gas price situation is much worse in Europe than some other parts (*coughamericacough*), automakers need a push to do so (for it is costly for many to put money into fuel-efficient vehicle development/research).

Looking at it.. it seems Toyota’s actually trying to help others (while they help themselves. I highly doubt Toyota UK would do this if they wouldn’t benefit from it too… then again..)

Well at least they just want money to further their lineup elviososa, GM and Chrysler need it so bad they are doomed without it so giving it to them is like a reward for failure. Now as a lot of people have stated we NEED them so fine we need them but that doesn’t mean Toyota shouldn’t get their own money, if anyone deserves extra cash it is Toyota for becoming pretty much the biggest player on the market, GM failed miserably so what makes ONLY them and the US guys deserve the cash and not anybody else?

A senior vice president that happens to work for Toyota’s UK office “strongly suggested” (not begged) the European Commission for 40 billion euros in loan for “AUTOMAKERS in developing fuel-efficient vehicles for the future.” He is asking on behalf of the automakers not just his company to develop fuel-efficient cars. This is understandable since this guy is from Europe where their cars are already filling at $7-8/gallon. The big 3 already have 25 billion just to develop fuel efficient cars filling at $2/gallon! -Borat.

Let’s get it straight, every car manufacturers are struggling right now. But Toyota is NOT asking for a bail out to prevent bankruptcy, and the suggested loan wasn’t delivered by 3 CEOs who flew via a private jet without having a plan B.

And this will not see the light of day in CNN, I think they’re more concerned about America’s economy.

Moore name was not mentioned in this article. What was said that Toyota will ask for 50 bn US for development of fuel efficient vehicles and since it from European governments then those funds to be used for EU development. What US former Big, now small 2.6 need is 25 bn to meet payroll and undisclosed amount to stay afloat in addition to 25 bn for efficient vehicles development.

Don’t forget there is a different definition of efficient in US & EU. In EU fuel now is $7-8/gallon, when in US is $2.

Shismo is wrong and right.

He is wrong that this loan is for 60% more than the $25 billion request made by the Big 3. This loan request is for 40 billion EUROS which is just over $50 biliion, so they are requesting 100% more.

He is right that this story will not see the light of day on CNN and that Michael Moore is a gasbag who said the Japanese would not do this. Come to think of it, 1115 is a similar gasbag who said that also.

So gasbags like Michael Moore bashed American cars for being unsafe, unreliable gas guzzlers, and for saying that Toyota/Honda would never ask for a bailout/loan.

Then yesterday Ford and Honda tie for 1st in IIHS safety rankings, and GM ties with Toyota for 7 awards each. Now, Toyota’s asking for 60% more than the Big 3 are asking for. Nice. 5 Bucks says this story will never see the light of day on CNN.
