Toyota expands Belgium R&D center

09/10/2008, 9:35 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Toyota is spending 80 million euros, or about $114 million, to expand its research and development center in Zaventem, Belgium, to focus on cars sold in Europe. The European market, which is about the same size as the North American market, has never been the automaker’s strongest suit. Toyota will add 250 employees to the center, which will bring the total to 700.

Toyota first opened the center in Belgium in 1987, expanding it last in 2006 to focus on diesel engines. Now, the center will include a full test facility for noise, vibration and harshness tuning, as well as safety and emissions and environmental impacts, reports Automotive News Europe.

I hope the good people of Belgium are more enthused about this than our LLN forum members.
